If No Family Member Wishes to Keep the Items

If no family members wish to keep a loved one’s Masonic belongings, they can be returned to Meridian Sun Lodge.

The lodge can help determine what should be retained, returned to the Grand Lodge of Ohio, preserved as part of the lodge’s history, or otherwise handled appropriately. Please do not feel that you need to sort through everything or determine the proper disposition on your own.

You may contact Meridian Sun Lodge to make arrangements to bring the items to the lodge.

Some Items Belong to the Grand Lodge of Ohio

Please pay particular attention to Masonic books and other materials that are marked as property of the Grand Lodge of Ohio.

For example, a book bearing an inscription, stamp, or label such as “Property of Grand Lodge of Ohio” should be returned to Meridian Sun Lodge rather than being discarded, sold, or given away. Meridian Sun can make sure these materials are properly returned to the Grand Lodge of Ohio.

These items may be part of the Grand Lodge’s library or historical collection, and returning them ensures that they remain in the care of the organization to which they belong.

Please Don't Throw Masonic Items Away

Before discarding Masonic materials, please contact Meridian Sun Lodge. Items that may seem ordinary to someone unfamiliar with Masonic history can have significance to the lodge, the Grand Lodge of Ohio, or the Mason's family.

Photographs, lodge programs, certificates, old lodge notices, books, membership documents, pins, medals, and other memorabilia may help preserve the history of both an individual Mason and the fraternity.

If your family has inherited Masonic memorabilia and you are unsure what to do with it, we are happy to help.

Please contact Meridian Sun Lodge before disposing of the items. If no family member wishes to keep them, we will help ensure that they are handled respectfully and, when appropriate, returned to the proper Masonic organization.
