What Do Masons Do?

Much of a Mason's experience takes place within his local lodge. Masons meet together, conduct lodge business, welcome new members, learn about the fraternity, and enjoy fellowship with one another.

Masons also work to improve their communities. Lodges may support local charities, veterans, schools, food drives, scholarship programs, community organizations, and families in need.

Every lodge is different, but the goal is the same: to make good men better and to encourage them to be good citizens and good neighbors.

What Happens at a Lodge Meeting?

A Masonic lodge meeting includes both business and fellowship. The lodge may conduct routine business, discuss charitable activities, plan events, or perform traditional Masonic ceremonies.

Some ceremonies are private to members. This is part of the longstanding tradition of Freemasonry and helps preserve the fraternity's unique character.

Why Do Men Become Masons?

Men join Freemasonry for many different reasons. Some have fathers, grandfathers, or other relatives who were Masons. Others meet a Mason in their community and become interested in the fraternity.

Many members appreciate the opportunity to form lifelong friendships, serve their communities, learn from others, and become part of a tradition that has continued for generations.

Freemasonry is ultimately about how a man conducts himself and how he treats the people around him.
