Washington was Postmaster in Richfield in the 1920’s. He lived in the Peninsula area. This story was told to me on June 17, 2008, by Myrtle Haslem & Linda Fleming. There was a big storm in Richfield and someone in the post office being fearful of the swollen Telling Creek along Brush Road asked Ted Monegan (Ted was later to become a 60+ mason & Tyler Emeritus in Meridian Sun Lodge) and another boy to look for Washington who was delivering the mail, they searched along the creek and found the wrecked wagon and dead horse of Washington but couldn’t find him, they traveled the creek fearing they would find the body of Washington, finally finding him drenched but in good shape. He was named after two Presidents. (some info from Myrtle Haslem & Linda Fleming at the Richfield Historical Society) (Some info came from Randy Bergdorf at the Peninsula Library & Historical Society)
