He was born in Copley in 1887 s/o Frank A. & Della Meyers Bigelow. He attended the district schools in Summit County and assisted his father in the cultivation and improvement of the farm. At the age of 17 he assumed the burden of self-support. In 1911 he embarked in business in Peninsula as a dealer in Coal and building material and with the able assistance of his father secured a large patronage. He was in that business for five years, in 1916 he started a new company Bigelow Motor Company, and as its President they handled a complete line of Chevrolet Cars. The first building which was erected in 1917 burnt in 1927. He rebuilt the building in 1928 and when finished was one of the finest garages in northern Ohio, there was a completely equipped repair department with a service force of first-class mechanics. Herbert is married with one son. Herbert stated when he was SW, WM Theodore Breck was called up for Military service, Brother Herbert served as Master pro tem for the balance of his year and then was elected Master the next year and he helped raise in those 2 years 46 MMs, 15 of those he raised were present tonight. He lived in the Peninsula area. In the 1920 Summit County Census he is listed as age 32 born in Ohio, married with one son and his occupation is Dealer. He is a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason; a York Rite Mason; belongs to Washington Chapter R.A.M. at Akron; Akron Commandery; K.T.; Lake Erie Consistory of Cleveland and Al Koran Temple of the Mystic Shrine.
